Toy Soldiers
Sometimes I believe the people in charge
Think of our soldiers as toys in a closet
Disposable things, plastic and inanimate
Take them out, start up a war, play a bit.
What were you thinking, Mr. George Bush
When you decided a war would be popular
Why didn’t you think of the young soldiers
Those who would die in your own little war?
What were you thinking Mr. Dick Cheney
As you argued so loud for the war to begin
Did you ever consider the sacrifice and pain
Or did you think of the money you’d earn?
What were you thinking Mr. Don Rumsfeld
When you said no problem, this war is easy
Why didn’t you order them some body armor
Did you even wonder if the Army was ready?
What were you thinking Mr. Paul Wolfowitz
When you conjured up the Iraq war scenarios
Were they only fairy-tales with happy endings
Did you forget to account for the casualties?
What were you thinking Mr. Douglas Feith
When you doctored up the CIA intelligence
To insinuate that Iraq was in on nine-eleven
Did you give your analysis a second glance?
Let’s see if I’m getting this straight, gentlemen
You sat there in the White House and planned
An attack on a defenseless country called Iraq
As part of a world-wide plan, because you can?
Didn’t you men learn anything forty years ago?
I didn’t think so.
Why do you persist with this outrageous fiasco?
Just your ego.
